Peter Jay, a native of Norwich, England, lived for many years in Kenya before settling in Ireland in the late 1950s. He worked in Dublin as a commercial artist, later moving to Dundalk where he created work from his studio for more than 20 years. He balanced his studio work with working as an artist in advertising agencies and book illustration, including illustrating Folens school books for a number of years. His depictions of the Irish landscape manage to reveal the same sense of empathy and brilliance he had shown in reflecting the colours of Kenya in his earlier work. Peter died in February 2000.
