“I spent some time walking around Blackrock, and was very impressed by the village and its wonderful location. I liked the proximity of the village to the sea and the expansive views over the bay to the Cooley Mountains. The silhouette of Bradáin refers in a very simple and direct way to the rounded shapes of the mountains, with the salmon referring to the origins of Blackrock as a fishing village.”
“I wanted the sculpture to be place-making, robust, high-quality, tactile and accessible to all. I am confidant that “Bradáin” will become an asset in many ways to the community of Blackrock”,
Bradáin was installed on the promenade in 2013. The piece represents a shoal of salmon and sometimes wreaths are placed at the sculpture to commemorate deceased members of the fishing community or those who have lost their lives in the waters around Blackrock.
