John Behan R.H.A. was born in 1938 and attended the National College of Art and Design, Dublin, Ealing College of Art, London and The Royal Academy School, Oslo. He was a founder member of the Project Arts Centre, as well as being instrumental in the establishment of the Dublin Art Foundry. He has served on The Arts Council, The Cultural Relations Committee, and as a board member of The Irish Museum of Modern Art. He is a member of The Royal Hibernian Academy and in 2000 was conferred Doctor of Literature by The National University of Ireland Galway.
