Commemorative Postcards of Louth

In 2024 as part of the Louth Decade of Centenaries programme, the arts office commissioned a series of postcards depicting images of events that happened across Louth during the period of 1912 – 1921.

The series provided a collection of 8 printed postcards. The sets of 8 have been made available in the libraries to be provided to those who attend historical events which the library hold throughout the year. We have also framed the collection for display in the county offices.

The postcards were illustrated by artist Alan Dunne and the narrative on each was supplied by local historian Dr Donal Hall.
The cards were printed by Devenneys in Dundalk.

Sorcha Queen of the Castle-A Decade of Centenaries project

A new book exploring Louth’s history in the lead up to the formation of the state launched in May 2024. The book, an initiative of Louth County Council arts office, and funded under the Decade of Centenaries programme in 2023, is aimed at the senior cycle and suitable for ages 9-12 and upwards. Led by acting Arts Officer Moya Hodgers, the book has been developed over the past year and is written by former An Táin writer-in-residence Nicola Cassidy. Illustrations have been provided by Dundalk-based illustrator Sophie Coyle, with historical research provided by local historian, Dr Donal Hall. A resource pack is available forall schools in the county alongside the free copies for distribution. The council hope that teachers and students in Co.
