Culture Night ‘One Night for All’ taking place Friday 20th September 2024

Louth County Council is once again supporting Culture Night, an initiative of the Arts Council of Ireland, which kicks off at 4p.m on Friday 20th September.

The annual theme is ‘One Night for All’ and it gives everyone in Louth a wonderful opportunity to showcase all the county has to offer.

Louth County Council Arts Office issued a call out in July asking people to get involved and were delighted with the public response.

Acting Arts Officer Moya Hodgers said: “Culture Night invites everyone everywhere, on one joyful night, to discover and celebrate all that our diverse culture is today in Ireland. This is a national moment connecting everyone to cultural activities locally and nationally and opening pathways to ongoing engagement.”

This year there is a variety of events on offer across the county. In Dundalk there is everything from Adult Watercolour Classes in Carroll Mead Hall to Exploring Identity through Mask Making with Outcomers in Dundalk.  An Táin Arts Centre, now celebrating its 10-year anniversary, has a range of events including children’s drama workshops, film screenings and an open evening at the Bó Studios. The Louth Urban Food Sanctuary will also be working with Artist Una Curley in her studio space in Bó Studios where she will have an interactive weaving project that will incorporate the colours of the Climate Stripes, a series of vertical colours that show the progressive heating of our planet. Meanwhile in Mo Chara there will be a special event with artist Aoife Edwards where you can engage with an interactive art piece, or you can pop over to Dundalk Library who will host an afternoon of arts and crafts with live music by Scoraíocht Lann Léire. And Bridge St Studios will also open their doors for their open studios and taster sessions.

Ardee library will have the Ardee Town Band, Intermezzo Ensemble and Ardee Uke & Rollers in their branch to entertain visitors while over in An Teach Scoraíocht in Dunleer music of the Oriel area will be performed in a special Oriel Echoes event.

Droichead Arts Centre has partnered with the council’s Night Time Economy Advisor to provide a huge range of events late into the night including street art exhibitions and live music as part of their Night Moves series across Drogheda. Hands for Unity will host a multi-cultural evening in St. Peters Church, while renowned composer Michael Holohan will host an extraordinary evening of sound in the Augustinian Church in Drogheda, famous for its unique Bell Tree of 40 chimes. Or you can head from the Tholsel to McHugh’s venue for a range of events from this year’s Boyne Tradfest which also kicks off on Culture Night. Highlanes Gallery will host a special evening of song and visual art, and an exhibition by artist Gracie Hawkins will take place in the Methodist Church.

So, wherever you are in the county we have something for everyone to enjoy on Friday 20th September.  All events are free, but some events will require booking in advance due to limited spaces.
