Award-winning children’s author, Sadhbh Devlin will visit a number of schools in Louth in October and November working with students to create mini-books and comics inspired by Irish mythology and our links with our Iberian friends.
Dates: 19th & 20th October and 11th, 12th & 13th November.
We are partnering with 5 Louth schools where students will work with Sadhbh and be inspired to imagine our shared celtic roots, exploring the stories that may connect us and invent some new stories of our own. Irish relations with Portugal can be traced back to the mists of antiquity. Archaeological evidence from the Iron, Bronze and Megalithic periods charts the earliest contacts between the Iberian Peninsula and Ireland. Recent DNA analysis also suggests that the Portuguese-Iberian peoples were ancestors to the Gaelic Irish, dating from the last Ice Age.
Sadhbh Devlin is an award-winning writer of adorable Irish-language picturebooks. Her book Geansaí Ottó (Futa Fata, 2020) won the LAI Book of the Year Awards in 2021 and became Ireland’s first outdoor Scéal Trail. Her book Amuigh Faoin Spéir (Futa Fata, 2022) won Gradam Réics Carló in 2023. She is also the author of the A Special Gift Donor Conception series of four picturebooks which were shortlisted for a European Fertility Society, Fertility Care Award in 2023. Her book, An Fia sa Choill (Futa Fata 2024) was the first Irish language children’s book to ever be shortlisted for the An Post Irish Book of the Year awards! Sadhbh was the dlr Libraries Writer in Residence in 2019/2020 and the DCU Irish Language Writer in Residence in 2022. She lives in Co. wicklow with her husband, twin daughters and a cheeky kitty named Pico.
