An Táin Arts Centre’s Theatre Company in residence, Chalk on the Wall Productions present their adaptation of Shakespeare’s King Lear, a king who, in preparation for old age, splits his land between his children.
This adaptation will show King Lear in a new light by setting the play in rural Ireland. Exploring the history of landownership in Ireland from the very start of the British invasion. The division of land would often lead to violence, betrayal, and the destruction of the family itself. This production will focus on nature, a crucial theme throughout the play, the difference between nurture and nature, and what shapes us to who we are?
