The Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media confirmed yesterday that the Decade of Centenaries Markievicz Award for 2023 will open for online applications via the Arts Council’s artists portal on Tuesday 17 January 2023.

Arts Council award up to 10 artists €25k per individual or group each year.

The Award is now in its fifth year and 32 artists across diverse genres have benefited from the €700,000 awarded under the scheme to date.  Audiences in turn have benefitted from the work produced and there’s much more to come in the years ahead.

Due to the ongoing effort to support the Irish language, the Gaeltacht, and the departments initiative to increase the importance of the Irish language revival movement, the scheme will assign one of the awards to an artist working in the Gaeltacht and through the medium of the Irish language. Other groups or individuals that are apart of culturally diverse communities or people with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply as well under the scheme.
