Looking Seeing

16 Sep 2023 - 04 Nov 2023

An exhibition of drawing curated by Droichead’s Curator in residence Dorothy Smith,  featuring Sahoko Blake, Vivienne Byrne, Raphael Hynes, Maeve McCarthy, Ida Mitrani and Michael Wann.

Drawing is a rich and complex word. We draw water, draw curtains, draw breath, draw conclusions. We also draw pictures. What is happening when we draw?

The act of drawing embodies movement. A pencil moving across a page, a stimulus transformed into marks, information and ideas being sifted, sorted, processed. A unique way of interacting with the world and with oneself. Drawing is fundamental to the practice of all six artists in this exhibition. All use drawing to directly engage with and explore our world; to search, to think, to make ideas visible. Their work demonstrates a wide range of concerns as well as the vibrancy, skill, and joy stemming from this innate human activity.

The exhibition will open at 3:00pm on the 16 Sept, with an in-conversation with all of the artists facilitated by Dorothy Smith.
